Marketing in the medical technology industry is rapidly evolving, and social media and direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising platforms have become powerful tools for reaching patients and healthcare providers. However, these channels present unique challenges in terms of regulatory compliance. This article by Madhavi Bellamkonda discusses the fundamentals of advertising and promotion of medical devices before examining in more detail the FDA’s DTC advertising requirements, social media platforms and their related regulatory requirements, celebrity endorsements and influencer marketing, and a recent rule on the use of consumer reviews and testimonials with respect to artificial intelligence.
