When preparing an article for publication in the Journal of Medical Device Regulation, please ensure that you follow the guidelines set out below. We do accept unsolicited articles but we recommend that you submit a short synopsis first. The Journal cannot guarantee publication of any article until it has been reviewed.
Articles are published on merit alone. We do not charge for publication and we do not pay authors for their work.
Content, format and style
- Although our preferred language is English, articles may also be written in French, German or Spanish. Non-English articles will be published alongside an English translation.
- Articles must be original, current and educational in nature. They should not be promotional and must not have been published previously, including online or in a substantially similar form.
- Articles should be written in a clear and concise manner using headings, bullet points, tables and figures, where necessary. Each table and/or figure must have a title. Figures and tables should be submitted in an editable format, where possible.
- Any abbreviations should be defined in full the first time they are used, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.
- References should be provided at the end of the article and numbered sequentially. Ideally, web references (URLs) should be used, along with the date of last access, if relevant.
- An article Abstract of about 250 words should be provided for marketing purposes.
- The article should include a short Learning Objectives box at the beginning, ideally using bullet points. This should clearly explain the practical relevance of the article, what readers can expect to learn, and how the information may support their professional activities.
- The article should include a Conclusion section summarising the key takeaways and practical implications for readers.
- A short Biography of no more than 100 words should be provided for each author of an article. This may include a contact email address.
Length
The following word counts may be used as a guide. Topics that require extended coverage can be submitted as a series (e.g. Part 1, Part 2).
- Editorial: 2000 words
- Focus article: 4000 words
- News update: 1000 words
- Meeting report: 1000 words
Use of AI technology in article preparation
Authors may use AI technologies to support article preparation, particularly during planning and structuring. However, authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, completeness, originality and integrity of all submitted content. Authors should:
- verify all AI-assisted content carefully, including sources and references
- ensure the final article reflects their own analysis, expertise and conclusions
- disclose any significant use of AI technologies where relevant to the article content or analysis
- ensure compliance with data privacy, intellectual property and third-party rights.
The use of AI tools solely for grammar, spelling or punctuation checks does not need to be disclosed. Our full AI policy is available here.
Submission and editing procedure
Ideally, articles should be sent by email as an attachment to editor@globalregulatorypress.com. Submission of an article does not guarantee publication. Final publication decisions remain at the discretion of the Editorial Director.
Articles will be edited for style, content, grammar and punctuation. Authors will be sent a copy of the edited article for review and approval prior to publication.
Copyright
Authors are responsible for all statements in their work and for obtaining permission to use any previously published tables and figures. Authors will be asked to sign a copyright transfer form for their article prior to publication. All published articles are subject to copyright restrictions and may not be posted publicly or distributed to anyone without our express permission and payment of a fee (see Open access section below).
Attribution and promotion
The author’s name, company name and a contact email address will be included at the end of the published article. An abstract containing the author’s name will also be posted publicly on our website, on our social media, and included in emails to our mailing lists. An author is free to use this public abstract for promotional purposes too and may link to the Issue Headlines page on our website. Only the published article content is subject to copyright restrictions.
Open access options
The Journal of Medical Device Regulation offers authors the opportunity to extend the reach of their work through dedicated open access options. These options allow authors to share their published article with their own audiences such as clients, partners, or conference attendees.
